About This Game

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom NSP ROM is an adventure RPG game for the Nintendo Switch. This game is the first main installment in The Legend of Zelda series in which you play as Princess Zelda.

For the first time in a 2D Zelda game, the Z-targeting system, introduced in Ocarina of Time, is available. However, unlike Ocarina of Time, where simply locating an enemy on the screen was usually enough to target it, Echoes of Wisdom’s top-down perspective makes this system much more complex. I had to be patient while aiming before I could select an enemy. Once a target is identified, the game prioritizes it in combat.

One of the most captivating aspects of the world of Echoes of Wisdom is the feeling that Zelda’s story has already unfolded before you even arrive. As you explore this world, you’ll encounter characters who provide clues about Link’s actions. You might even discover his hometown. You can imagine that it was there he acquired his first sword and shield. All of Hyrule knows him, and he’ll tell you about his adventures. You’ll discover fragments of Link’s journey as he helps the various races of Hyrule on their quest to save Zelda.

Despite the limited number of cutscenes, Echoes of Wisdom places great emphasis on narrative. This care is reflected in the game world and its connection to the entire Zelda series. New elements appear, but a clear effort is made to avoid contradictions or compromises with previous installments. In an interview published for the game’s release, series producer Eiji Anuma stated that he worked tirelessly on the story to finalize it. I think this is evident, to a degree rarely seen in other recent titles.

While The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom represents a return to the style of A Link to the Past in many ways, it also offers a unique experience within the Zelda universe. For this reason, it is perhaps one of the most controversial games in the series. For me, it was a unique and incredible experience in the world of Zelda. The Echo System transforms combat and puzzle-solving, offering a fresh perspective on both.

However, the game seems hesitant to fully immerse itself in this world, and greater control over character echoes would have greatly enriched the experience. The dungeons have regained a level of quality unseen for over a decade, and the music is superb. Performance remains stable at 30 frames per second, with difficulty reaching 60. Ultimately, Echoes of Wisdom fits perfectly into the rich Zelda universe, offering surprising originality while remaining true to its predecessors.
